Caratteristiche

Località

There are two alternatives for accessing the cavity. One is from the C-31 road between Verges and Torroella de Montgrí: we will turn off in the direction of Bellcaire d'Empordà; just after passing it, at kilometre 3.500, we will turn right in the direction of Sobrestany and la Torre Ferrana; after passing this last house, we will follow the track until we pass a series of bends, we will see a water tank on the right and a little further on a wide space to park on the right of the path (mirador del Roc Ferran); 300 metres further on, on the left, we will see the remains of a stone hut located about a hundred metres from the track; the cavity is about 9 metres from the hut.

The other access begins from the Càmping de l'Estartit: you must follow the camí de la Torre Ponça; once past it, 500 metres further on we find a crossroads, we will continue along the track on the left; after 1900 metres we will find a new crossroads, we will continue along the left for 2 kilometres; at this point and on the right of the track, we will see the remains of the hut mentioned above, next to which the cavity is located.

Descrizione

Morfologia

A first pit with a drop of 3.50 metres connects with a descending gallery 7 metres long, which is followed by another shorter and less steep one; then the descent stabilises and one enters a zone crossed by other galleries at different levels, creating a fairly complex closed circuit. Continuing along the main gallery, three small pits of 3.50 and 4.50 metres respectively follow one another; at the bottom of the last one the maximum depth is reached. The cavity continues through a narrow crawlway, full of mud and with a siphoning appearance, and then takes a notable ascent until reaching the -18 level, where the cavity ends. In this final sector some small side galleries and a final chamber on the upper level develop.

Storia

Discovered in 1968 by two relatives of the well-known Girona industrialist Torras Hostench, hence its name.

On 3 December 1972 it is explored and surveyed by the Centre Excursionista Empordanès de Figueres.

In 1978 La SIRE-UEC de Sants explores and surveys it again.

In 1986, while reforestation work was being carried out with a subsoiling machine, they moved the rocks that formed the entrance and the cavity was covered with the same rocks.

Between May and June 2008, members of the SIE-CEA unblock the cavity, placing a wooden pallet at the entrance to prevent falls.
