Caratteristiche

Località

On the road from Figueres to Llers (GIP-5106), one kilometre before reaching it, in front of a car cemetery (Can Poc), a cart track leaves to the left in a S direction, climbing the slope of the small mountain called Torres Blanques until reaching the upper plateau. Once up there and about 50 metres to the left of the track is the mouth of the pit, easily located because it is surrounded by a very visible metal mesh.

Descrizione

Morfologia

In the very middle of a doline about 5 metres in diameter and of little depth, the entrance shaft opens with a drop of -10 metres. At its bottom, by means of a short ramp of stones, one reaches the Sala Gran, kidney-shaped and about 15x6 metres in size. From this chamber leave the two routes that form the rest of the cavity.

CEE route: along the E side of the chamber and up a step between blocks, one reaches the upper part of a mud ramp; once down and to one side of a small chamber, there is a small pit of 8 metres of drop that leads to the end point of this route, the Sala CEE.

GEIS route: it begins at the W end of the Sala Gran and starts with a narrow, descending passage that soon gives way to a step of just over three metres of drop, forming a small chamber. In its floor there are two holes that lead to a gallery of regular dimensions with inclined walls and with some chimneys that can be climbed to access a false upper floor. From the base of the gallery, one can reach by two parallel ways the upper part of a very steep ramp of about 12 metres of drop, which is followed by a pit of -8 metres and continues through some muddy crawls and some galleries until reaching some chimneys that have not been climbed. The lower part of this ramp can also be reached by another gallery, filled with a great quantity of mud and which begins at the opposite end of the upper gallery. Before reaching the pit, on the right opens the passage that joins it to the Sala del Bloc, named thus for the existence on its floor of a block of prismatic calcite of regular dimensions; this chamber ends in a chimney that has been climbed about 10 metres, but without positive result.

Mention must also be made of the connection opened at the end of 1978 between the mud ramp of the CEE route and the beginning of the GEIS route, passing under the Sala Gran and consisting of a series of narrow passages, opened between blocks.

Concrezioni

The Sala del Bloc receives this name for the existence on its floor of a block of prismatic calcite of regular dimensions.

Storia

It seems that this cavity became known in 1954 when the roof of the entrance shaft collapsed; it was rediscovered from some forms that the UEC sent to its members. According to the bibliographies, the first exploration was carried out by the UEC of Figueres in 1964, although the explorations were continued by the CEE (Centre Excursionista Empordanès), of Figueres. Between 1966 and 1969, every 24 December the missa del Gall was held in the Sala Gran, with the attendance of about 50 people. In 1977-78 the GEIS (Grup Empordanès d'Investigacions Subterrànies del CEE (Figueres)) carried out a new survey.
