Caratteristiche

Località

On the GIV-5041 road, after kilometre 4 in the direction of Boadella, we will turn left towards the village of les Escaules. After travelling about a hundred metres, on the left we will find a track where, after a few metres, there is an abandoned electrical transformer hut. We will follow the track, which soon ends at some vegetable plots; we will cross the field in the direction of the cliff where we will find the cavity, almost directly below Can Llop.

Descrizione

Morfologia

It is a rock shelter 7 metres long. The front is 10 metres wide and just over 4 metres high. At the back there is a small passage that rises to a height of 5 metres.

Storia

It is a shelter in which Palaeolithic material and a medieval occupation level have been documented.

It was located by Enric Jiménez and Narcís Sitjes, in the month of June 1978, together with other cavities in the area. Later, with members of the Associació Arqueològica de Girona, an archaeological intervention was carried out with the opening of a test pit of 4 x 2 x 3 m. These works made it possible to verify sediments with remains of Palaeolithic lithic material and a medieval occupation level, but arranged in an inverted manner. Therefore, with the evidence that the stratigraphy had been altered.
