Caratteristiche

Località

E of the summit of Farrubio (791 m). The easiest access starts from the northernmost bend of the well-known “Caragol” on the road that climbs to mont Caro. Follow the ridge in an ENE direction along a faint path that passes a few metres below it. Once level with the summit of Farrubio, continue onwards keeping the same height and about 500 metres further on, the entrance depression surrounded by some shrubs can already be seen. Approximately a little over an hour of walking. Approximate coordinates.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The entrance, of regular dimensions and set in a small depression, has a drop between lips of 4 metres, giving way to a ramp that leads to the first pit (13.5 m) whose base is a narrow ramp floor followed by a new vertical of 10.3 metres.

Next, a very stepped 29 metre pit leads to the –64 level. At this point, a long ramp floor that, followed downwards, is blocked by boulders (–73 level), but if followed upwards it passes over some boulders among which there are some narrow passages. The fissure narrows notably and then the last pit opens, 33 metres and divided by different wedged boulders. At its bottom (–95 level) the floor descends as a ramp and ends in a drop, which is the point of maximum penetration.

The cavity is set in a W-E joint, being one of the so-called “tectonic” cavities, with a clear decalcification morphology.

Storia

Cavity located by the Tortosa excursionist Rafael Cohí, who communicated the find to some young cavers from a local group called Joventuts Espeleològiques Tortosines (first antecedent of the SIRE-UEC Tortosa and later Espeleo Club Tortosa) who explored it at the end of 1973.

In January 1974 members of the SIE – CE Àliga (Barcelona) explored it again and surveyed it.
