Characteristics

Location

From inside Sant Julià de Cerdanyola, we must position ourselves at the height of the last house of the village in the direction of the summit of the Puig, to ascend from there through the stone walls that delimit the fields. The cavity is found within a visible limestone outcrop, at the point where the trees begin and the meadows end. About 120 metres in a straight line from the last house of the village.

Description

Morphology

The funnel-type entrance gives way to an inclined shaft of -9 metres depth, linking laterally with a chamber of ample dimensions with a descending floor and totally covered with boulders. At its highest end there is a comfortable and short gallery connected with an upper small room with beautiful formations. Descending to the bottom of the aforementioned chamber, we find a crawlway surrounded by unstable boulders that intimidate on passing. At the other end, we access from the ceiling a gallery of modest dimensions and short length that ends at -15 metres of total depth among pebbles.

Speleothems

The upper small room contains beautiful formations.

History

A cavity quite well known in the village; at the beginning of the 80s of the last century it was frequently visited by members of the SE Poblet in order to initiate the children, as well as accompanying the children of the village.

It was later explored by the SEO of CE Vallirana during 1993, carrying out the only known survey.

Faura (1909) mentions the forat dels Moros and the cova dels Pastors, near this cavity; they are two small shelters, the latter wider but without speleological interest, they are located in the westernmost part of the Puig, opened in the margins of some cultivated fields. Both are accessible from the camí de la Creu.
