Characteristics

Location

The two caves, Gran and Petita, are located beneath the Penya-segat del Santuari de la Mare de Deu de les Esposes or Espases. They present a comfortable access if made by climbing the wall from the last waterfall; they are very visible from the path that goes to les Nou Fonts.

Description

Morphology

There are two cavities opened in the same stratum and at a very short distance from each other. The larger one has a gallery of 12 metres of passage that ends abruptly behind a block; its cross-section is rounded with dimensions of 2X3 metres, which gradually diminish to 1X1.

History

Cavity explored by the SEO del CE Vallirana during the nineties of the last century.

En Faura (1909) cites the cova de les Esposes together with others in Sant Julià de Cerdanyola; we do not know whether it could be this specific cavity, but they could be any of those later catalogued in this small municipality.
