Description

Morphology

A fairly irregular shaft of between 8 and 9 metres connects with a sloping chamber of 24X14X8 metres; at the lowest part one reaches the -20 metre level. The cavity has another narrower entrance shaft, which also leads to the chamber.

History

In 1978 the SIRE de Sants located this cavity in the Baridana canal of Josa; they theorise that it is the avenc de la Sorcière, a phantasmagorical cavity of 271 metres of drop supposedly explored by the French of the SCSP “Spéléo Club de Saint Pons”, and about which nothing more has ever been known. (For more information on the Sorcière see the record of the Baborell de Montsec).

In 1979 members of the GEB, unaware of the exploration carried out by the SIRE the previous year, and on the basis of information provided in the bar of Josa de Cadí about the existence of a hole in the Baridana canal, decided to search for it.

Once the hole was located they confirmed that the cavity has two entrance mouths; this detail escaped the members of the SIRE-Sants, very probably because their exploration was carried out with the terrain snow-covered, and supposedly the smaller mouth would have been plugged by the snow; in fact they found the other mouth when one of the members of the group sank into the snow.

This cavity is in fact located a little more than 15 kilometres as the crow flies and 870 metres of drop from the place where the French group SCSP had set up their camp, which according to them was 4 hours of walking from the presumed cavity.
