Characteristics

Location

Follow the L-913 road that leaves Vilanova de Meià in the direction of Pas Nou and turn off to the left in the direction of the ermita de la Mare de Deu del Puig de Meià. Shortly after starting along the track we find a turn-off to the right that is the camí de les Costes de l'Isaac and that leads to the area where the Querants de Paús are.

On reaching the first 180-degree bend to the right we will leave the vehicle and continue on foot in a W direction, about fifty metres, where we will find the lower part of the exit of the crevice. If we continue in a W direction about 20 metres further, we will find the lower exit of the other crevice.

To access the upper part of the crevice, follow the track from the previous point where it was indicated that the vehicle should be left; this soon makes a 180-degree turn to the left and continues climbing until a new 180-degree bend to the right where we will leave the vehicle at the most suitable point. From the bend we will head about 15 metres towards the SW where we will find the start of the crevice in its upper part.

Description

Morphology

The crevice begins with a small step that can be avoided by accessing a few metres further to the W, where we find a down-climb that places us again below the step. At the base of the step we find a 1.5-metre pothole with a crawl that ends at 5 metres. Continuing down the slope of the wide crevice open to the outside, halfway down at the point where there is a block, on the right the crevice located further to the W begins.

Continuing down the main crevice we reach a step of less than 2 metres where we enter an area with a roof. At the base of the step a steep descending slope continues until we come out again to the outside; at this point on the right there is a narrow passage that connects with the other crevice; if we continue straight ahead we will find that the crevice presents a vertical between blocks, while on the left-hand side and following the wall there is a narrow descending passage that places us at the base of the aforementioned vertical. At this point we find a small step that is easy to descend which places us in a 4.5-metre pothole (parabolt 8mm). At the base a gallery leads us to the outside. The drop from the entrance is 36.8 metres.

Once at the point where the narrower crevice located further to the W begins, following it straight ahead we reach a very vertical area; a few metres before, however, we find on the right a down-climb that makes some zigzags until it places itself at the base of the previous vertical; halfway along we also find on the right a narrow crevice that would lead us to the outside in the cliffy area.

Once at the previous confluence point, a vertical of about 10 metres presents itself; at the base the gallery continues descending until it comes out to the outside. The drop from the upper access is -33 metres.

History

Interesting crevices of which no reference was known speleologically. Members of the SIE del CEA and the ERE del CEC explore and catalogue them in October 2020.
