Small fissure near the Pas dels Lladres, in the Fondal de Valldellós (Mediona), described in November 2020.

Characteristics

Location

The Fondal de Valldellós is in the municipality of Mediona. It is formed by the collapse of a limestone cliff that has created an exceptional chaos of blocks, among which a multitude of small concavities have formed, of little speleological value but of archaeological interest.

The whole spot is dominated by two singular elements: the needle of Valldellós, a monolith that presides over the hollow, and the pass of the thieves or of the fox, which, forming a concealed channel, allows the cliff to be easily surmounted.

Archaeologically characterised as an eremitic-cultural cave nucleus, it is a spot resulting from the decomposition and retreat of the cliff, where a tumbling of blocks creates a small labyrinth of passages and dens.

The Esquerda is parallel to the Pas del Lladres and is found just as the Pas dels Lladres is finished being surmounted, a pass that allows access to the upper part of the cliff.

Description

Morphology

Small fissure that can be accessed by two small steps between blocks and also by a horizontal opening located at its western end.

Progression

Access is by two small steps between blocks and also by a horizontal opening located at the western end of the fissure.

Other details

Although conditions do not appear favourable for permanent troglodytic habitation, the fact is that numerous pieces from prehistoric times (Neolithic and Bronze) and from the early Christian period have been collected, within the small “almost” caves that open beneath the blocks.

History

Within the group of small cavities of the Fondal de Valldellós, this one was unknown until it was described by the members of the “espeleodijous”, who documented it in November 2020.
