An 11-metre-deep fissure in Vallirana, with two wide entrances connected by small ledges.

Location

Take the track that leaves Pla d'Ardenya in the direction of the Serra del Mas and el Sotarro; on reaching the first crossroads, follow the left-hand one. When the climb is practically over and the track turns right in the direction of the doline of the Serra del Mas, we must branch off to the left in the direction of the crag. Before reaching it we will find a fissure that blocks our way; following it both to the right and to the left we will come across the different numbers that have been given to the Esquerda del Mas de les Fonts. This one is located towards the right, it is the last of all the fissures, it is after the Esquerda nº 3 (SM-8/9; the SM-10 is displaced to the West).

Morphology

Fissure 11 metres deep. It has two wide entrances connected by means of small ledges.

Outside light reaches the whole pit.

History

At the end of the 70s the ERE of the CEC explored the various fissures in the area of les Esquerdes del Mas de les Fonts and cites them as Penya Esquerdada with different numbers to identify them; in this case they did not get to explore this one. This fissure is the one situated furthest South of all. Members of the SEO-CE Vallirana explored and surveyed it on 20 October 1996, naming it with the initials SM-11 and also Penya esquerdada 11. It has been decided to cite this fissure with nº 7 for a question of continuity and coherence, since in the end they had ended up mixing the numbers of the fissures with the numbers of the “SM”, making the whole thing rather unintelligible.
