Description
Morphology
The cavity, located on a substantially horizontal plane, is structured along a joint of N-S orientation. It presents a relatively wide mouth, oriented towards the S, which gives access to the first chamber. The other two chambers, which are reached by means of respective crawlways, are arranged successively, following a practically rectilinear layout. Along its course one can observe whirlpool corrosion conduits of short length, masked by a graviclastic process generating a significant volume of sediments.
History
The first mention of the cavity appears in the Recull espeleològic de Catalunya (Faura i Sans, 1909), although in a somewhat imprecise manner, since it only records the place of its location: La Reparada. No specific reference is known until the year 1919, when Dr. Ricardo Zariquiey captured several specimens of a troglobitic beetle then called Anillochlamys raholai. The years pass and there is no further news of the cavity. In 1977, Jordi Comas and Oleguer Escolà make an attempt to locate it but without success. It is not until 1997 that Oleguer Escolà and Florentí Fadrique, with the collaboration of some good connoisseurs of the cavities of the Empordà (Salvador Delclós and Enric Palou), are able to reach the cave to continue the research on cavernicolous fauna. On the ICC map three caves located quite close appear in this area: Cova d'en Tassana, Cova de la Reparada and Cova de l'Esllavissada. Very probably all three place names refer to the same cavity, the Cova Tassana.
