Small 14-metre cave in the Montsec de Rúbies, Llimiana, explored by the GELL on 1 December 1979.

Characteristics

Location

Along the track that climbs from the Hostal Roig to the Portella Blanca, at the height of the Llau de la Coma del Torn and located at 1439 metres of altitude, we find a shepherd's hut. Once at the hut, we must descend northwards in a straight line to reach the start of a stratum that rises between the Llau de la Coma del Torn to the E, and the Llau de Costes Rèbies to the W; we must descend along this latter Llau, finding la Cova (the cave) no. 1 and no. 2 of the Cingle de Correis on the cliff of the right-hand slope, both separated by 8 metres of distance, no. 1 being the second one we find. They are very close and to the W of the Forat de la Grallera. Approximate coordinates.

Description

Morphology

Mouth of 4x5 metres subdivided into two; the left-hand one is semi-obstructed at 4 metres. At 1.50 metres from the floor an upper level begins through a crawlway that closes again 4 metres further on. The total drop is +9 metres.

Speleothems

Above this crawlway and after a low ceiling there is a 6-metre-high spindle covered in formations.

History

Explored by the GELL on 1 December 1979. Very probably these are the caves explored on 7 September of the year 1910 by Jeannel and Racovitza on the same day that they visited the Forat del Gel, and which they called coves de l'Hostalet, which had never been visited again.
