Cova de les Pedres

Petita cova de 17 m. al turó del Ros (Viladecavalls) i d'interès arqueològic.

Viladecavalls • Vallès Occidental17m4m

Small 17 m cave on the Turó del Ros (Viladecavalls), of archaeological interest.

Characteristics

Location

To the NW of Viladecavalls lies the Turó del Ros (Serra de Collcardús), and the cave is located below the hill on its southern slope, more specifically to the S of the summit. Access can be gained from Can Boada de les Parentes and, at present, from the Collcardús tunnel (Road C-58 from Terrassa to Vacarisses). The approach from the Collcardús tunnel can be made in a true off-road vehicle (4x4 with low range), following the track that climbs up to the Turó del Ros. A little before reaching it, one must take a path (on foot) to the left, which climbs steeply and descends along the S slope in the direction of Can Boada de les Parentes. One must descend to a fork marked with a cairn (UTM coordinates... X: 411437; Y: 4603220). To the right a small trail starts where some red marks are found. Following them one reaches first the cova de les Tres Boques and then the Cova de les Pedres.

Another option, which also starts at Collcardús, is to climb to the Coll de Can Margarit and follow the track that skirts the Serra de Collcardús along its E slope. On reaching a 180º bend, a track begins that comes head-on and goes to Can Boada de les Parentes. Shortly after following it, one must take the first turn-off (it climbs steeply) to the right until reaching the aforementioned cairn. Then follow the red marks. We do not know the condition of this track.

On both itineraries, if travelling by vehicle, one must bear in mind whether the gate of the restaurant next to the Collcardús tunnel is open.

Description

Morphology

Formed by a single slightly descending gallery about 12 metres long. There are small branches of very short length. The dimensions are small and there is a narrow passage.

History

Known since ancient times, although the first record dates from the year 1973, when it was explored by members of the then delegation of the SIS – CET in Olesa de Montserrat. An attempted dig led to the discovery of some initial flint knives. The subsequent excavation resulted in the description of 76 pieces, basically lithic materials.
