Characteristics

Location

Leaving Solsona on the C-462 road towards the pantà de la Llossa del Cavall, shortly after km 11, a track leaves to the left which, after approximately one kilometre, is closed with a chain. You will have to continue on foot along the track, a fairly long route. You reach a fork below the crag where the cave is located and you must go up among boxwoods and brambles that make it a struggle, but there is no longer any chance of getting lost; a little to the right until you find the streambed of the riera and then you simply have to follow it upstream.

The cave is hidden behind an immense piece of wall that has become separated from the rest of the mountain; here you must leave the torrent on the right and go around this block on the left. Once here, you will need to climb up a couple of metres to find the vertex of the two walls.

Description

Morphology

Cavity formed by a single straight gallery with a 54-metre passage. This stretch is usually flooded and at 35 metres it is already sumped. This sump, after some 15-20 metres of underwater passage, emerges again into a dry gallery with the same characteristics as the initial gallery.

Hydrology

The stretch of the gallery is usually flooded and at 35 metres it is already sumped. This sump, after some 15-20 metres of underwater passage, emerges again into a dry gallery with the same characteristics as the initial gallery.

Progression

Since 1965, we have no record that the sump has been explored again.

Other details

Toponymy: The name cabrota is not a reference to any species of goat. It is what the bird of prey known as gamarús is called in Western Catalan and which has inhabited the cavity for many, many years.

History

The first exploration was carried out by Carme Tarrés, Montserrat Ubach and Josep Ubach (EDES of the Centre Excursionista de la Comarca del Bages) during Easter of 1963.

On 17-18 May 1964, members of EDECA and of the ERE of the CEC carried out the survey while observing the terminal sump.

On 1-2 May 1965, Josep Subils (ERE of the CEC) passed the sump, emerging into a dry gallery.

In 1974, a team from the ERE attempted to empty the sump using tubes, with no apparent results.

On 15 September 1985, Montserrat Ubach (ERE-CEC) and Jordi Lloret (SIE-CEA) carried out a new survey, finding the cave dry and the sump level quite low.
