Characteristics

Location

On the N-420 road, from Reus to Falset, once past Pradell de la Teixeta, and between kilometres 847 and 846, on the right of the road we find a branch of the old road that places us in the area of the Font de les Coves. From here, we will climb through the forest in a N direction, towards a nearby hill; this hill is located 300 metres to the SW of the puig de la Pòpia. One passes near the Avenc del Rabassó and must continue climbing towards the Pòpia. The cave is on the SE crag at the base of the puig. Approximate coordinates without much precision.

Description

Morphology

A vertical fissure widened at its base where it presents some 2 m in width and which narrows with height. The gallery follows the same exterior pattern but one can only penetrate a maximum of 6 m where the narrowness makes it impracticable.

History

Discovered in the autumn of 1964 by the brothers Bonaventura and Emili Arbonès, of the Centre d'Estudis Falsetans. It was then excavated under the direction of Salvador Vilaseca and the bone remains of five individuals were found, as well as various lithic, ceramic and metal materials.

Erroneously, in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (Vol. 7, 1984) it is considered a synonym of the cova-sepulcre II de les Quimeres, when in reality they are two different cavities.
