Cova de Castellassa del Dalmau

Cova de Castellassa del Dalmau

Petita cova de 12 m. de recorregut a Sant Llorenç del Munt

Matadepera • Vallès Occidental12m0

Small cave with a 12 m passage in Sant Llorenç del Munt, at the top of a narrow chute.

Characteristics

Location

The cave is in Sant Llorenç del Munt. From km. 14 of the road from Castellar del Vallès to Sant Llorenç Savall, at the Revolt Rodó, you must go up the riera Seca to the confluence with the riera del Dalmau, then follow the bed of the latter, on our left. We will pass a track that leads to l'Adernar and continue upstream until we find a new fork on the left that leads to the Castellassa del Dalmau. The ascent begins on this path. We will leave the forks that lead to the Bassa del Dalmau and the Baga del Dalmau on the left and right, respectively. We will cross a torrent and must pay attention to our left, where a new path begins that will take us from the 600 mark to the foot of the cingle de la Castellassa. If we pass it, we will end up at the network of paths that lead to the font de Neda.

The path crosses a charcoal kiln when we are almost at the top. We will come out onto a rocky area with a drop on our left. Yellow marks are the sign of this path, which links up with the path of the carena del Peiret. The sign to turn off to our right is two holm oaks that cover the fall to the drop, just 20 metres along the rocky area. We will cross a boxwood grove until we reach the walls of the cingle de la Castellassa. To the right we would find the pinassa del Palleret (an imposing pine with a perimeter of 2.5 metres). We will continue as best we can to the left, close to the cliff. We will cross a gully and then find a well-worn chute at the top of which is the cave. Very approximate coordinates.

Description

Morphology

The cave is at the top of a narrow chute. The entrance, just over 50 centimetres high, leads us into a single gallery 12 metres long, very narrow. At some points the cave reaches 5 metres in height, although very uncomfortable.

Speleothems

The left wall of the gallery is quite decorated with stalagmitic flowstone.

Progression

You must get over an earthy rise about 3 metres high. To make the ascent easier, three steps have been cut into the earthy wall.

History

Someone had spoken of this cave to Xavi Badiella, but it was not located by Jordi Guillemot (SIS-CET) until 19 November 2000. It was explored the following week and the survey was carried out on 31 December 2000; it will therefore remain as the last cavity discovered in the past millennium in Sant Llorenç del Munt.
