Characteristics

Location

From Corbera de Llobregat we will head towards l'Amunt and specifically to the Can Rigol residential estate; we will go to carrer de la Sal de Llop and follow it to the end, where it links up with a track that we will follow for 280 metres, where we will take a path on the left that within a few metres will lead us to the entrance of an abandoned quarry; the cavity is found at the beginning of this quarry.

Description

Morphology

The entrance is a collapse caused by the quarry's working regime; the circular-section mouth leads us into a wide chamber full of blocks; if we continue straight on we descend about two metres until we reach a point where the floor and the ceiling meet; on the left-hand side a great profusion of lithogenesis prevents continuation along this side of the cave. Back in the chamber, on the left there are two continuations, one further to the left which by means of a one-metre step leads us to another access mouth; from here a gallery leads us to a small chamber much damaged by the quarry. Back in the chamber again, on the right-hand side and along a passage that lies between the rock and the blocks of the chamber, we will find on the floor a circular crawlway that descends slightly until it places us in a wide gallery that is the continuation of the one described at the beginning. On the opposite side, the gallery turns 90º and descends a couple of metres with a great abundance of lithogenic formations.

History

Explored on 30 October 1983 by GEFOMA, on the basis of indications given by colleagues from the Excursionista section of the Foment Martinenc who lived in Corbera. The nearby Avenc de Can Rigol pit, located in the l'Amunt residential estate (Corbera), disappeared at the beginning of the 2000s owing to the construction of new houses.

Bio

Troglocharinus ferreri 1 specimen collected by Francesc Rubinat on 30/10/1983.
