Characteristics

Location

At the upper part of the Clot de l'Infern, to the W of Sant Feliu de Pallerols and above the C-153 road in the Vall d'en Bas. The entrance, in the form of a window in a small crag and a few metres from Cova 2 de les Feixasses, is not too far from the ruins of the Mas de les Feixasses, abandoned since the 1950's.

From the coll d'Uria there is a route, somewhat lost, that reaches Roca Roja and la Salut, passing by the Mas de les Feixasses.

Location and coordinates of very little reliability and which only indicate the area where the cavity should be found.

Description

Morphology

Descending fissure between blocks, very similar to number 1. In the final stretch between blocks a narrow subvertical conduit is formed that closes after a few metres.

History

The first news known of the two caves of les Feixasses are the product of the discovery of a new species of beetle made by the entomologist Antoni Vilarrubia on 17 April 1934. At this time, Vilarrubia often went out with members of the Club Muntanyenc Barcelonès (See Sota Terra II, 1935) and it seems more than probable that N. Llopis Lladó, among others, accompanied him and would have made the survey of the two caves of les Feixasses. These surveys remained hidden in the CMB archive for more than 40 years, until around 1979 they were rediscovered by Joan Borràs in the course of collecting data for the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya, where they appeared published for the first time.

In January 1989, O. Escolà and A. Lista (ERE – CEC) visit the cavities with the aim of collecting fauna. They also explore some small cavities between blocks, very close to the Mas de les Feixasses. Of these works there is practically no record anywhere.

In the summer of 1994, members of the SIE – CEA accompanied by naturalist friends from Sant Feliu de Pallerols, explore the holes located at the Punxa Filosa and when finishing they pass by the entrances of the two caves of les Feixasses and also by the small holes marked by the ERE near the ruins of the Mas. On this occasion neither are data taken from any of them.

In May 1977, A. Lagar and colleagues from the SIRE – UEC Gràcia visit a cave that they call Cova de la Boada and that is published in the same work on the nearby pits of Can Roca Roja. The situation given of this cavity is very imprecise and with even more imprecise coordinates, but everything seems to indicate that it must be found in the area of the Clot de l'Infern. The naturalist friends from Sant Feliu dedicated 4 or 5 days to the search for la Cova de la Boada and the results were totally sterile. In the end it was concluded that very possibly la Cova de la Boada must be one of the caves of les Feixasses and more specifically number 1, since it has much similarity with the structure and details of Llopis Lladó's survey. Of course doubts remain, as Lagar and colleagues did not see the nearby cave number 2? The orientation of the gallery varies 180º between one and the other, but this is something that we have observed happens very often in the different surveys of the same cavity.
