Description

Morphology

The cave has a very low ceiling that does not exceed 20 centimetres above sea level, but the water depth reaches 1.5 metres. Past the mouth, one enters a chamber where the ceiling rises and the floor slopes gently upward, slightly increasing the width, and we can move about with some comfort. At the end of the chamber there is a somewhat narrow gallery, about 6 metres long, entirely submerged, which suddenly narrows.

Hydrology

This cavity should be explored during periods of calm sea, since if it is somewhat rough it can become very dangerous because the changes in level cause the mouth to become completely flooded, with a strong sea current and great air compression that could cause the explorers' eardrums to burst. It is precisely this compression of the interior air that causes the water to be expelled with great force, which is where the name blowhole comes from. The force with which the water is expelled is evident from the dried algae found piled up around the rocks of the blowhole, even 15 metres above sea level and about twenty metres away from the mouth of the cavity.

History

The only data we know are those provided by members of the SIS – CE Terrassa who explored and surveyed it in August 1987.
