Description
Morphology
It is a cave with a 40-metre length and a -4 metre elevation drop and with two entrances, which connect inside by means of a gallery perpendicular to them; from this perpendicular gallery as well as from the gallery located further to the S, one reaches another gallery parallel to the previous one where the cavity ends, which does not connect with the rest of the system.
History
Known since ancient times in the area, the rock shelter was a human dwelling for many centuries, a circumstance confirmed by finds from the Bronze Age (-1800/-650) and Medieval period (400/1492). The cave is inventoried as part of the archaeological heritage of Catalonia.
Speleologically, the first mention of the cavity appears in the Catàlech (1897) by Font i Sagué, who mentions it as: la Cova, in Molló, adding that it is difficult to access.
There is no specific news until the exploration carried out by members of the GES-CMB (Ll. Muntán, J. Montoriol, and R. Pasant), who visited and surveyed it on 26 August 1953, during a brief campaign in the area; the survey of the cavity they incorporated into the general survey of the Baumes d'en Borrasser.
In 2012, during the survey review carried out by the SIE-CEA; C.E. Castellar; SES del GER and the GEB at the Balmes del Borrasser, they confirmed that the lower entrances (Balma Independent) do not connect with the main Balma, as initially seemed to be the case from the 1953 survey.
