Characteristics

Location

A built-up rock shelter on the Aigua de Valls river (Guixers).

Driving along the LV-4241 road from Berga to Sant Llorenç de Morunys, at kilometre 20.725 we will turn right towards Montcalb; after passing Sisquer, we will continue for 1.7 kilometres; at this point we will leave the road and continue to the left along a track that passes by can Jou and la Perera; after covering 4.35 kilometres from the road we will arrive at the dam of the small Xut reservoir.

Downstream, following the path beside the river, about 500 metres approximately, coinciding with a small abandoned path, on the left, that climbs through the middle of the forest heading east, the path becomes a narrow trail and passes between old cultivated fields, now abandoned, down to below some rocks where we will find the balma dels Segarra.

Description

Morphology

It is divided into two shelters. The more easterly one is higher up and structured with three walls that have fallen, under the rock, with an oven in the middle, still preserved. The ground is full of rocks from the walls, wooden beams, some burnt ones and various rubbish. The more westerly one, separated by about 5 metres, is deeper and lower, still preserves the wooden beds and an animal stall, the ground is full of rubble.

On the more easterly side of the higher shelter, a mudslide is infiltrating, coming down from a side gully with the danger of sweeping everything away.

Other details

It is so covered with brambles, ivy and rotten cherry trees that one could say you cannot enter. It gives the sensation of a dangerous ruin, because the walls do not hold themselves up and the rock itself erodes quickly, opening cracks and falling to one side.

History

Known since time immemorial, the last inhabitants abandoned it in the early 1960s.
