A 14-metre-deep rock shelter in Guixers (Solsonès), with a 30 m wide and 5 m high mouth, located on the left bank of the torrent de Vilacireres.

Characteristics

Location

On the left bank of the torrent de Vilacireres, about 100 m west of the balma de l'Isard. To reach it we will set off from the path that goes from the Pont Quebradís to the Torre de la Corriu. Once we have crossed the torrent de cal Pelegrí, a tributary of the torrent de Vilacireres, on a small spur where we again come into view of the torrent de Vilacireres and a landmark for going to all these shelters. We will continue along the path for about 50 m more and leave it to climb in the direction of the balma de l'Isard; once at the foot of the wall we will continue west for about 50 metres more at the foot of the cliff, passing a small shelter, and before reaching a torrent, we will climb a few metres scrambling up the wall and pass under a small block in the same direction and entering the torrent through the vegetation, above all holm oaks. We will finish by going up the torrent to the foot of the balma gran.

Description

Morphology

It has a mouth 30 m wide by 5 metres high on average, covered by holm oaks. The balma gran can be divided into three parts. In all the parts we will see that it slopes towards the interior, reaching a difference in level of +4 metres, some with small steps marked by the sedimentation strata and on the ceiling the wind erosion giving rounded and spherical forms, which swifts take advantage of to nest. The floor is full of scree and eroded by the herds of wild goats that settle there; there are also three large blocks that have fallen from the ceiling. The deepest point of the shelter is at 14 metres. On the west side there is a small shelter 8 m wide by 1 m high and 4 m deep.

Speleothems

Almost in the middle of the shelter there is a small spring of water forming a stalagmite.

Progression

To reach this small shelter one has to climb hard.

History

Known since time immemorial.
