A 5 m deep shelter in Guixers (Solsonès), beneath the balmes de les Cabres de Vilacireres, with two chambers and the remains of an Isard skeleton.

Characteristics

Location

Located beneath the balmes de les Cabres de Vilacireres, but it cannot be seen because it is hidden by a row of boxwoods. From the path that goes from the Pont Quebradís to the Torre de la Corriu, it is about three minutes to the shelter, first through the forest and then through the boxwood groves of the cliff to enter it.

Approximate coordinates without much precision.

Description

Morphology

It is a large shelter about 20 m long by 5 m deep, divided into two chambers. The westernmost is the largest, twice the size of the other. The floor is full of pebbles and earth fallen from the walls and ceiling due to erosion. The easternmost chamber is half the size of the other and is the entrance because it is the most accessible to reach. The average height of the ceiling varies between 2 and 3 m. Below the shelter in a westerly direction, and beneath the cliff by which we climbed, there is a small shelter 3 x 4 m at its base by 1.5 m high.

Hydrology

Rainwater drips from the walls when it rains and comes down from the torrent of the cinglera de Cal Pelegrí.

Other details

The remains of the skeleton of an Isard can still be found, hence its name. We will also see swallow nests attached to the ceiling. It seems that human action has not intervened yet.

History

Known since time immemorial.

Bio
