Characteristics

Location

From the centre of Odèn we will leave via Santa Cecilia and go down along the forest road; after the steep slope, at the first bend we will look for the white and red paint marks of the GR1 that comes from Canalda and goes to Cambrils. Before us opens the head of the riuet de la Plana with views of the farmhouses of el Torrent and l'Oriola. We will follow the marks along a path and go down along the costa del Rosselló, passing above the house of el Boix. We will continue descending diagonally along a wider path until we reach an asphalted forest road.

We will cross the road and continue descending along the old neighbour path, changing direction and leaving the GR1 marks. The slope is steep and gradually becomes gentler. We will stay alert because on the left-hand side, beneath a large outcrop above the farmhouse of la Plana, we will see the balma de Cal Rito.

Description

Morphology

It is a group of three chambers. The easternmost chamber is a small dry-stone square with its four walls beneath the rock overhang and not touching the wall. In the middle there is a chamber with a dry-stone wall, circular in shape, which closes at the roof and at the rock. It has a small door and a small window. Behind it there is a small room beneath a large rock fallen from the cliff that communicates with another chamber with dry stone further to the north-west. This passage was probably used to make fire in order to warm the chambers. This last chamber, the westernmost, has a dry-stone wall of low height at the front and joins the walls of the shelter with the large rock fallen from the wall. The shelter is about 25 metres wide by 6 metres deep.

Other details

This troglodytic house could be one of the first houses of the whole hamlet of la Plana.

History

Known and inhabited since time immemorial, it was explored and surveyed on 10 October 2009 by S. Codina and X. Borès (CE Solsonès).
