Description
Morphology
These are two independent cavities that are joined by small openings in the separating wall and that for now are impassable from one to the other.
Avenc de l'Esmenador: it consists of a single circular shaft 30 metres deep, with a narrowing at elevation – 17. Shortly before this point the windows of communication with the Avenc del Tossal del Jonc can be seen. At the bottom of the shaft a short descending ramp blocked by boulders marks the point of maximum depth (- 31.4).
Avenc del Tossal del Jonc: it develops parallel to that of l'Esmenador. Through its entrance one enters a 12-metre shaft and from there it divides into two vertical passages, very narrow, one of them reaching 29 metres of depth.
Progression
Currently (late 2013), the entrance of the Avenc del Tossal del Jonc is covered by a large piece of white wood.
History
The oldest citation we know of is a reference appearing in the Recull de Faura i Sans (1909) where it only records: Tossal del Junc (Perelló).
The first news of an exploration is by members of the GES – CMB who explored it in April 1955, in a continuation campaign of the one carried out the previous year. From this second campaign a brief news item appears in the magazine Cordada no. 4, June 1955.
We include a redrawn copy that we have rediscovered of the survey of the year 1955 (we believe it remained unpublished), although unfortunately it does not preserve the stroke and lettering so characteristic of our friend Òscar Andrés, who surely would have the original.
In April 1983 members of the SIE – CEA explored and surveyed it again.
Our friend Lluís Muntan (GES – CMB) provides us with three historical photos taken by his companion Josep-Manuel Anglada on the day of the first exploration. In the first one can be seen the municipal guards of El Perelló and a shepherd who was running around there with the goats and the dog named “Carinyo”. In the other two, Muntan at the entrance of the pit and descending the shaft by the elektron ladder.
