A 16-metre-deep pit in Altafulla, with a practicable depth of -16.5 metres.

Characteristics

Location

From Altafulla along the camí de l'Ermita we will head to the ermita de Sant Antoni de Pàdua; from there we will continue in a NE direction along the track that leads to the power plant and the motorways. After 100 metres we will find a water tank on the right and 130 metres further on we will turn left along a track until we reach a crossroads; we will continue along the right-hand one for about 65 metres, where we will turn right onto a path that we will follow for about fifty metres until we reach a point where the path forms an esplanade. From the left-hand part of this, where there is a block with a white line painted on it (data from 2012), a descending path sets off that in about 70 metres leads to the Pou de l'Encantament (covered with a PVC pallet); we will continue down the path for a few metres and turn left, where we will find the cavity about 5 metres further on, covered with some wooden planks.

Description

Morphology

It consists of a narrow gallery on a slope and slightly meandering. The floor is covered with sediments predominantly from the exterior and the clastic process is quite significant. The practicable depth is -16.5 metres, although the probing between the blocks that block the way indicates a possible greater drop.

History

It seems to have been known in Altafulla since long ago; the first reference to its exploration is the one carried out by members of the SIE del CE Àliga, who visited it a couple of times during the summer of 1973 and surveyed it on 20 January 1974.
