Characteristics

Location

On the N-260 road from Pobla de Segur to Sort, once past the last tunnel of the Collegats gorge, we will find at 2.5 kilometres the turn-off towards Baén; then a bridge crosses the Noguera Pallaresa river and once past it a track must be taken on the right which, through a ford, crosses the Major river and climbs towards the Pentina forest, winding up the mountain, and we will head towards the Cuberes refuge, until finding, after having covered 11.3 kilometres of track, the turn-off on the right that leads to Solduga. At first the track continues climbing but soon begins to descend until reaching a large flat area (Pla de la Serra del Pou) where the forest rangers usually leave animal remains for the vultures. From the most open part of the flat area, beside the remains of a hut, we will head west, for 370 metres and without practically losing height, where just below some remains of civil war trenches the cavity opens.

Description

Morphology

It has two entrances, although one of them is impenetrable. Access is via a narrow entrance where we find a 2-metre drop that places us in a diaclase with a sloping floor forming an 8-metre slide-pit, followed by a further 4-metre drop. The diaclase continues until it becomes impenetrable.

History

First explored in 1985 by members of the “Speleo Club Lasallien” of Nimes (France). They organise a campaign at Boumort and during a long weekend in the month of May make a first visit, locating this cavity (L.85.1) but it needs to be dug open. On 1 August they set up camp on the flat area where the track that currently goes to Solduga then ended, and it is not until 3 August that they manage to dig open the entrance and fully explore the cavity, while on 4 August they carry out the survey. On the same day, 4 August, they decide to dismantle the camp and set up at the Collegats campsite where they make contact with the La Pobla de Segur firefighters and with the “Ratafia”, the company of both they will not leave until the end of the campaign.
