Characteristics

Location

From la Sénia, take the camí de Pallerols, which leads to the ermita de la Mare de Déu de Pallerols, and continue along the camí del Ròssec, which passes through la Gotellera, l'Escaleta and the collet d'en Grau. The path then becomes known as the camí dels Plans (de Valldebous); leave behind the basseta del Pou and an area called Terrers Rojos (a deposit of pulverised iron ore) which, once passed, leaves the head of the barranc de Bassiets on the right. At this point, 7 metres to the left of the path, is the entrance of the pit.

Description

Morphology

It consists of a single bell-shaped shaft of 16 vertical metres with the base occupied by clastic deposits, giving rise to a steeply sloping ramp that ends at a depth of 22 metres.

History

On the hiking maps of el Port (UEC-Tortosa and Ed. Alpina) it has long appeared incorrectly marked to the east of the Punta de l'Avenc. We do not know where they obtained the information from, nor whether anyone had explored the cavity, or when.

On 21 February 2009 it was visited and surveyed by David Aragón, Andrés Sánchez, David Aragón Jr., R. Calso and Juan Ramos, all of them members of the Espeleo Club Castelló.
