Avenc del Purgatori

Avenc del Purgatori

Petit avenc de poc més de 5 metres de desnivell al Serrat de la Morella (Begues)

Begues • Baix Llobregat13m5m

Small pit of just over 5 metres of vertical drop at the Serrat de la Morella (Begues), with two entrances, located on 24-3-2011 and surveyed on 21-4-2013 and 19-6-2013.

Characteristics

Location

Cavity located at the Serrat de la Morella (Begues), above the avenc de l'Infern. From this one we will head SE, and at the end of an elongated doline with a pine grove, when we begin to climb towards the AENA station, we will easily find the cavity.

Perhaps the easiest route is going along the track: when we pass the turn-off of the path that climbs to the Morella (right) we advance about 60 metres and we will leave the track on the left heading SE towards the aforementioned pine grove, and after about 60 metres we find the pit.

Description

Morphology

Pit with two entrances. The upper one, quite masked by vegetation, is 0.40 x 0.60 metres and consists of an R.1.90 and an R.0.70.

The entrance of choice will be the main entrance in the form of a cave, located under a very characteristic stone slab; a gallery of a couple of metres leads us to some drops (R.0.60, R.0.50). At this point we connect with the base of the drops of the shaft of the previous entrance, and we observe three continuations in the form of small shafts.

If we continue in the direction of the entrance joint, there are two small shafts: the first is passable (0.50 x 0.60 m), but not the second (0.30 x 0.80); both join further down.

The third continuation is a shaft located on the right that accesses another joint parallel to the previous one. The entrance of this shaft is 0.70 x 0.40 metres, it is 2.80 metres deep, it is easily downclimbable, and it places us in a narrow meandering gallery about 0.60 metres wide. It narrows after 2 metres until it becomes impassable.

Progression

We descend the first small shaft by an R.1.60, where a small descending ramp ends at an elevation of -5 metres.

History

During an outing carried out by members of different groups within the activities of the people of the espeleodijous, they locate the cavity on 24-3-2011, without managing to explore it, and they already note that it seems to have been explored given the presence of a spit at the entrance. The identity of the first explorers is unknown.

Two years later, on 21-4-2013, members of the GE Badalona and EC Gràcia carry out a first survey and catalogue it as Avenc del Purgatori.

On 19-6-2013, the SES-GE Ribes, unaware of the previous survey (it had not yet been published), carry out another survey, giving the cavity the name avenc del Pirata.
