Characteristics

Location

Between the riera de les Arenes and the road from Terrassa to Mura. Past km. 4 there is on the right the turn-off to the Can Prat urbanisation. Before crossing the bridge, one must go some 115 metres to the left, where in the middle of the forest is found the mouth of the pit. At its edge there is a hollow of just over 1 metre in depth (Avenc petit del Pont de Can Prat) that we have decided not to catalogue.

Description

Morphology

With a circular shaft, earthy and with roots from the pine near the mouth, the pit descends vertically 3.5 metres. At its base, an opening in the shape of a half-moon allows a fairly comfortable passage for a first pitch. This half-moon is delimited by a large slab of stone that crosses the whole side of the base and that seems firm enough. Next a slab of smaller dimensions that protrudes from the wall is the only one that gets in the way in this initial passage of the interior pit. A shaft of 3 metres leaves you at the base. At this base there is a cavity that fills up at half a metre of depth, and a crawl of steep inclination, some 55º and 4.5 metres of route that ends in a small chamber, where the point of maximum depth is reached at 15.5 metres.

Other details

Special mention must be made that this cavity is one of the few that are found excavated in limestones within the Sant Llorenç del Munt – Serra de l'Obac conglomerate massif. Years ago the pits of Can Sallent and that of les Pedres, also excavated in limestones, disappeared due to the advance of the quarry. Now there are only this one, a fissure in the area of Roques Blanques and some other phenomenon of very small dimensions.

History

The cavity was discovered by Lluís Hernández, presenter of the programme Això és la Mola on Radio Matadepera, who got in contact with veteran members of the SIS – CE Terrassa and of the GES – CM Terrassa, who after a first inspection returned with other companions who during the month of June 2013 proceeded to the clearing of some very narrow points and to the preparation of the study and survey.
