A 49-metre-deep pit in Toses (Ripollès), with shafts of -18, -11 and -15 metres and an important clastic process.

Characteristics

Location

It opens in the so-called Roques del Migdia, visible from the village of Toses. To reach it, one must overcome a height difference of about 400 metres and climb up the Canal del Migdia, finding the cavity in its upper part and on its right bank.

Our colleague Manel Pintos informs us that, according to data provided by the local people, this cavity may have disappeared. We do not know the causes that could have produced this.

Description

Morphology

Past the narrow entrance, one enters a vertical pit of -18 metres, connected at its upper part with a small sloping chamber. The base of this pit forms a slope until it leads out at the upper part of a new vertical drop of -11 metres with a morphology similar to the upper zone, although in plan it presents a very characteristic “Z” shape, opening at its opposite end the entrance of a new vertical drop of -15 metres, where the pit ends due to the progressive narrowing of the walls of the joint.

Other details

Throughout the cavity an important clastic process is observed.

History

Explored in 1978 by members of the now-defunct Centre Excursionista de Viladecans.
