Characteristics

Location

From Alinyà you must go to the nearby hamlet of Alzina d'Alinyà. From the highest part of the small village a track leads to the coll d'Ares. Before crossing the riu de la Peça, on the right a path runs parallel to this valley until reaching below the well-known rock called Pedra Paret, which must be accessed from its N side and followed to the very edge of the cliff where the pit is found. Description

Morphology

Through a kind of trench filled with blocks you reach an elongated small shaft with a drop of 3 metres, and at its bottom a short ramp leads to another drop of 2 metres, followed by a new descending ramp. At the end of this, the presence of a second opening to the outside can be seen in the ceiling. A vertical conduit between blocks that becomes impenetrable after a few metres marks the point of maximum depth. The main gallery turns towards the NE and about 10 metres further on it emerges outside through a third opening.

History

Visited during phase II of the so-called Operació Solsonès between 27 and 30 March 1964, calling it Avenc de la Font Negra.

Visited again by members of the ERE – CEC (Ubach and Escolà) on 18 May 1970, they made the survey (unpublished until now) and collected fauna, renaming it Avenc de Pedra Paret.
