Characteristics

Location

From the coll d'Ares we will head along the asphalt track to the astronomical observatory, then continue along the track that passes right by the pic de Corona up to the height of the Pas de l'Onso de Ponent. Here we find a turn-off to the right which we follow for about 350 metres until it begins to turn left; we leave the track and continue straight on, the cavity is found 300 metres further on, on the hydrographic left of the barranc, in the upper part of a crag. One entrance is found 5 metres from the top of the crag and the other is on the same ridge.

Description

Morphology

Upper entrance of 1x1.5 metres with a small drop that places us on a platform of blocks wedged in the walls, 6 metres below we find ourselves on a floor 30 metres long that is closed on the north-west side by flowstone; ascending the flowstone gives access to an upper gallery that ends in a heavily decorated chamber.

To the north-east we find the second entrance, parallel to the crag, with a pit of -16 metres that places us on a ramp floor 28 metres long, with the north-west part showing a more important lithogenic process than in the upper gallery; at the far end, ascending to the ceiling gives access to a heavily decorated upper gallery.

History

The first exploration was carried out on 26 March 1970, with the participation of J.A. Raventós, R. Sitjà, J.I. Raventós, Mª.P. Guerra and M. Romero of the ERE of the CEC.

In March 2025 Avent Sandoval and Joana Reyes accessed some upper galleries located at the end of both galleries, which increase the length of the cavity; they carried out a new survey.

Toponymy: Although it has always been cited as a pit, we have decided to change it to the more correct toponym of the area, which is graller. Furthermore, one of the first explorers tells us that on the day of the first exploration they were able to observe the presence of jackdaws inside it.
