Terrassa • Vallès Occidental37m25m

Small 25 m deep pit in the Serra de l'Obac, an old swallow hole of the torrent Maleït, with an entrance of 11 by 3.5 metres and a small final chamber.

Characteristics

Location

Going along the B-122 road from Terrassa to Rellinars, after km. 8 there is a bend and a bridge that crosses the torrent de la Serra Llarga. A few metres before, a track comes out on the right that first runs parallel to the road and then climbs up towards the ridge of the Serra Llarga. You pass under a first power line, and further on you reach a second power line. You continue and the track goes off to the right, crossing the torrent de la Serra Llarga and further on the torrent Maleït. A few metres beyond, an old track comes out on the right heading towards a high-voltage tower. At this point you must go down towards the torrent Maleït following alongside the high-voltage line (on its left side) and about 30 metres before reaching the torrent bed you find the entrance of the pit.

Description

Morphology

Entrance opening of 11 by 3.5 metres. Then it drops vertically down to 18 metres, ending right in the middle of a ramp. Through a small passage between some blocks, you reach a small chamber 11 metres long by 3.5 wide and 6 metres high.

Hydrology

Old swallow hole of the torrent that could be related to the spring of the Caus del Guitart.

Progression

Currently (June 2026) the passage to the small chamber is completely blocked, not because the ceiling has collapsed, but because the floods have washed the sediments from the ramp downwards. (Data from the visit carried out by members of the Espeleodijous on 18-6-2026)

History

The first news of this pit dates from 18 January 1920, when members of the Centre Excursionista de Terrassa carried out the first exploration. There is no further news for fifty years, and it remained unknown to everyone. On 5 July 1970, and after three days of prospecting, it was located again by members of the SIS of the CE de Terrassa, who explored it on the following 11 July, completing the corresponding record card and survey.
