A 13-metre-deep pit in the Cova Bonica area, in Vallirana, in the Pèlec urbanisation.

Characteristics

Location

Vallirana, in the Pèlec urbanisation (also called Pèlac, Pèlag and even Pèlach), located at the junction of Avinguda d'Olesa de Bonesvalls with Carrer Galicia; we will head to a vacant lot next to house no. 10 on Avinguda d'Olesa de Bonesvalls. Once in the vacant lot we will go down the left-hand side along a wooded slope with remains of construction material; at the bottom of the slope we will find a path that leads towards the rear of the houses, and we will follow it for about fifty metres. At this point, on the left-hand side facing the ravine, the upper part of a rock can be seen half-hidden by the vegetation; we will have to go down either side of the rock to its base, where we will find the mouth of the cavity at the foot of the crag formed by the rock.

Description

Morphology

A narrow mouth opened artificially in a small hollow in the rock gives access to a 9-metre pit with wide dimensions and a regular structure. At the base, an opening between flowstone gives way to a slope of stones that leads to a rounded chamber half-filled with blocks. In its ceiling two small and curious continuations of limited development open up.

History

Unblocked and explored on 4-1-1992 by Toni Asensio and Pedro Valdepeñas, at that time belonging to the GIRES of Sant Esteve Sesrovires.

Our colleague Josep Guarro informs us that in October 1980, in the company of his friend Xavier Fernández, when they were just beginning the practice of speleology, they tried to locate the Avenc del Pèlac and during the search they found a small pit which they proceeded to explore. At that time they were very young and very thin and they were able to squeeze inside despite the narrowness.

The photos that accompany it are testimony that it was what would later be catalogued as avenc de la Penya.
