Characteristics

Location

From the coll del Cavall Bernat de Sant Llorenç one must follow to the right below the cinglera del Cap de Mort, passing by the balma de les Puces and the balma de les Gaites, until reaching below the Roca de l'Esquirol. From here one must climb up a gully and, halfway along it, on the left, is the mouth of the pit.

Description

Morphology

Through the small mouth one reaches a drop of just over 2 metres and immediately another of about 3 metres, continuing along a short inclined gallery set in a N20O joint. At its end it opens into a small pit of about 5 metres and from its base starts a slightly descending gallery about 8 metres long where the cavity closes.

History

The first exploration took place on 5 September 1954 by members of the GES – CMB.

The pit is called indistinctly de la Canal de l'Esquirol and/or de l'Esquirol. Curiously, its authors, in the Sant Llorenç catalogue (1974), in the record cite it as de la Canal de l'Esquirol and in the topography as de l'Esquirol.
