Avenc de l'Escletxa

Esquerda de 33 m. de fondària a Mont-ral

Mont-ral • Alt Camp133m33m

33 m deep pit at Mont-ral, located and explored by the AAEET de Valls on 29 October 1995; in 2018 Montse Roca and Juli Serrano (SIE-CEA) locate two new entrances there and in February 2019 it is checked and surveyed.

Characteristics

Location

Going along the road from Alcover to Capafonts (TV 7041), before reaching Mont-ral and a few metres before reaching Km. 10, an initially asphalted track leaves, crossing the Pla de les Perdius. We will always continue straight, ignoring the forks, until the track ends in a widening of it in the middle of the forest, on the ridge of the serra d'en Clarà. From this point and in a N direction a path leaves that takes us to the avenc del Cabirol. From here we must continue in direction W25N along a path opened through the dense forest for a little more than a hundred metres, where we will find the entrances of the avencs NR-6, NR5 and NR-4. From the latter we will follow the path in direction N33West for 90 metres, where we will reach the upper part of a cliff of about 10 metres drop, right in front we have a rock wall that makes the space occupied by the cliff look like a gully, at its base one of the entrances of the avenc de l'Escletxa opens, we must descend by rappel about 8 metres to access the cavity through this entrance.

Once again at the upper part of the gully, before descending the rappel, if we head to the left in a West direction about fifteen metres and next to the cliff, one metre below we find a ledge where the upper entrance of the avenc de l'Escletxa opens.

If we position ourselves again at the upper part of the gully, before descending the rappel, going back along the path in the direction of the avenc del Cabirol, we soon find a path on the left that takes us to a point of the cliff where there is a natural passage to descend to the foot of the cliff, leading to where the avenc de la Dolina is (this path is the most practical to access the area where the avencs Sílvia, Formació, Blocs and Sala are also located), from the avenc de la Dolina, we will follow a few metres in a N direction and turn descending to the left, to look for the base of the cliff, where we will find the entrance of the cave that gives access to the lower part of the avenc de l'Escletxa.

Description

Morphology

33 m deep pit. From the upper entrance, we find a first shaft of a little more than 5 metres that we can overcome by entering from one side, where a sloping ramp places us at the vertical of a P-12, at its base a gallery leads us to just below the entrance that opens at the base of a gully hanging from the cliff. From this entrance we must descend a step to reach the level of the gallery where we are, at this point a 10 metre shaft opens, at its base we find a winding joint that descends until reaching the maximum level of -33 metres, just at this point and at 8.65 metres height a perpendicular gallery opens that, following it, takes us outside through a cave-shaped entrance. From the previous point at -33 metres, if we follow the gallery we find a fixed rope that allows us to overcome a step of about 5 metres height, the gallery continues until it becomes impenetrable, but with a strong air current.

History

Located and explored by members of the AAEET de Valls on 29 October 1995, during 2018 Montse Roca and Juli Serrano (SIE-CEA) explore it again and locate two new entrances to the cavity. In February 2019 members of the SIE-CEA and of the ERE del CEC fully check it and carry out the survey.
