Description
Morphology
The narrow entrance (0.35 m in diameter) can seem very wide when seen next to the start of the Gatera Còsmica, a small semi-vertical conduit 8 metres long and 0.20 by 0.50 metres at its narrowest points.
This selective passage gives access to the first pit of 11.5 metres. From its base one can go to the Via dels Pous or to the Via de les Gateres. These two routes descend, crossing each other, down to the level of -106.
From here and by means of a triangular crawl, one reaches a series of superimposed chambers that, among large unstable blocks, lead to a pit of 6 metres. At one end of its base and thanks to the widening of a narrow meander, one reaches a pit of 13 metres and the Sala de les Lloses. Winding through the middle of the blocks and with a new digging, one enters an active zone that, with a 6-metre drop and a new digging, ends at the level of -201.5.
Digging a narrow joint in the manner of a balcony at the 6-metre drop, one accesses the Meandre de la Dutxa which leads to a pit of 24 metres, where a great chaos of blocks begins that continues to the level of -247 (the point where the explorations ended in 1987).
A little before the previous end point and after much digging work, a passage was opened into a subvertical conduit that leads into a pit of 16 metres, at the bottom of which there are two narrow vertical conduits, through one of which the point of maximum depth is reached (level -283). Through the other (level -278) some possibility of continuation is glimpsed, but the digging is complicated and difficult.
In the absence of speleometric data from the authors of the survey, we have calculated on the basis of it that the total length of the cavity will greatly exceed 600 metres, although this is a totally estimated figure.
Hydrology
The whole final sector of the pit receives important water inflows.
Progression
The exploration of the CP.6 required numerous and titanic diggings. They even went so far as to install an electric generator at the entrance that gave light to be able to charge the batteries of the “Hilti”.
History
After the first searches in the lower zone of the barranc de Cova Pintada, begun in 1985 by the members of the Espeleo Club Tortosa, the prospections continued through the higher zone while searching for possible connections with the CP.1.
The work of the first phase was finished at the end of the year 1987, but in March of the following year the important diggings continued at the lower levels, managing to reach the level of maximum depth after two years.
