Description

Morphology

The shelter is very shallow. The paintings are small and adapt to the concavities left by the pebbles and the irregularities of the conglomerate wall.

History

The paintings of the rock art ensemble of the abric del barranc de Biern shelter were discovered by Jaume Ciurana i Llevadot and Núria Sales i Rovira, during an excursion on 4 August 2005.

Toponymy: Although the Nomenclàtor Oficial de Toponímia Major de Catalunya writes it Viern, experts such as Joan Coromines, Albert Manent or Ramon Pere, after studying the ancient documentation and hearing the pronunciation of the people of Vilanova de Prades, favour the spelling with B, Biern.
