Caratteristiche

Località

At the western end of the serra de Bestracà, a few metres above the bed of the torrent de Rabassa, in the middle of a holm oak wood.

To get there, we will start from the village of Oix and follow the Beget road for about 8 km. Shortly after passing the col and the houses of Pera, and before reaching the coll del Salomó, we will leave the car just where we find the start of an ascending track that leaves the road on the right.

The track (not in very good condition) climbs to the collada de Rabassa and then immediately begins to descend steeply down the other side towards the torrent de Rabassa. The track makes a few bends until it reaches the vicinity of the torrent, where it takes a decided northerly direction. Only about 100 m after taking this direction, we will leave the track on the right, along a faint path that goes to meet another more worn path. We will follow this to the right and, shortly after, the path crosses the torrent de Rabassa. Just after crossing, we will leave the path and go up through the woods, pathless, finding the cavity about 30 metres from the torrent, among holm oaks and box trees. The entrance is not visible until we are almost in front of it.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The entrance is more or less square in shape, not quite a metre by a metre. It gives access to a short ramp that immediately drops into the vertical of the shaft. This gives way to a direct drop, with only an unstable ledge at 7 m from the start of the vertical.

The shaft has comfortable dimensions and its cross-section tends to increase as we go deeper. Finally, it lands on a triangular floor with sides of 5, 5 and 4 metres. The floor is occupied by stones on a slope, reaching the -23 level at the lowest point. At the upper part of the slope a narrow gallery 3 m long with a 2 m step begins.

Storia

J.Mª Corominas (1963) published the article “Les Tutes de la Garrotxa” in Bulletin no. 54 of the Centre Excursionista de Banyoles. In it he mentions the location of the tuta de can Nofre. By throwing stones he estimated the depth of the shaft at between 25-30 m. And he leaves the following message: Here you have a pit to explore, speleology enthusiasts.

The pit was located and explored on 5-10-2019 by members of the Espeleo Club Muntanyenc Barcelonès and the Grup d'Espeleologia de Badalona, after an arduous prospection with the few data from Corominas, in abrupt terrain, closed in by vegetation.

However, the pit had remained unpublished speleologically until this exploration. It does not appear in any catalogue or list. No signs of any previous exploration are found. The shaft is the deepest in the comarca.
