The Grotte du Cheval in Arcy-sur-Cure extends 90 metres with almost no elevation change, and its walled entrance protects engravings and prehistoric deposits.

Morfologia
Its development is 90 metres, practically without elevation change. The gallery widens several times into small chambers separated from one another by large concretions forming "keyholes"; the threshold of the last chamber is a crawlway, made so narrow by concretions that it was impassable at the time of its discovery; but this last chamber is the largest. The Grotte ends in a narrow fissure between floor and ceiling that meet.

Idrologia
The cave was filled in by Clay deposits from the river and by deposits from fissures in the rock.
Progressione
Of awkward access, it can only be entered by crawling; first through a scree slope, then through a squeeze sometimes with a very low ceiling (~30 cm at its lowest).
Altri dettagli
Its entrance was walled up to protect the engravings and prehistoric deposits. A blade (of stone) found planted in a suck-back adjoining the crawlway shows that the funnels already existed at the time. Thus the archaeological remains were covered (and protected); and it is very likely that in the Palaeolithic its access was more practicable, notably for access to the last chamber.
