Località

From Santa Maria de Besora we will follow the track towards Llaés; at the height of the els Ferrers farmhouse we will turn right and continue along the track towards the Castell de Milany. Once past the coll de Sesposelles, we will reach the westernmost part of the Pla de Maranyol, where the fageda de Bombac or del Barretó is located. On the right-hand side of the track, on the positive slope, we find the entrance of the cova Primus covered by scrub, and about 14 m from it is the Forat de les Tombes. In the past the cavity was easily locatable because it was next to an enormous beech tree known by the name of Faig General de la Tomba or del Forat de la Tomba, but this was felled in 1982 as a result of a snowfall.

Descrizione

Morfologia

A triangular entrance of 0.5x1.5 metres allows access to a 2-metre shaft, which ends above a low gallery with a ceiling and 6 metres of development. On the side where it meets the entrance shaft, the ceiling rises rapidly and the floor, with a slope of about 45º, forms a ramp 17 metres long, at the bottom of which the gallery continues horizontally for 15 metres, ending at the top of a new ramp with a similar inclination to the previous one, but shorter. The ceiling, in most of the cavity, is made up of a large quantity of large wedged blocks.

Idrologia

The cavity is very humid, its base being formed of stones and Clay, and the walls appear to us practically bare.

Storia

Cavity known since time immemorial by the people of the area. The first news about the cavity is provided by Salvador Vilaseca, who carried out archaeological excavations in the early 40s of the last century, the results of which he published in 1942 in the journal Ampurias, but without including any survey of the cavity. The SIE del CEA explores and surveys it on 20 May 1973; later, on 18 September 1977, a group of cavers who were going independently, who in time would join the GE de la PE Guimerà, visit and survey it; they publish it under the name Forat del Barretó, unaware that the cavity was already known by the name Forat or cova de des Tombes.
