Caratteristiche

Località

The cave is located beneath the puig de la Perdiu, in Vallcarca, Garraf.

By the C-31 road along the Garraf coast we will reach Vallcarca and access the cement factory by the camí d'en Fradera after passing under the railway tracks. Past the Uniland Cementera, SA factory (Grup FCC), we will head towards Campdàsens passing under the C-32 motorway, following the riera de Vallcarca. We will pass the electrical substation and leave the quarry on the left to pass again under the C-32 and take the narrow road that climbs to ca l'Amell. Past the last bend and, well before the aforementioned farmhouse, on the right we can park the cars.

We will head on foot towards the puig de la Perdiu, over quite overgrown terrain and with no path. At the pine grove on the hill we will find remains of dry-stone walls of old terraces. Here we will turn to the right to go and find a descent that places us at the foot of the cliff. Once at this cliff we will follow it to the right and find the three small caves.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The most interesting cavity of the three, it is also a fox den. This cave is heavily eroded. It consists of two main entrances. The first one we find, about 2 m wide by 1.5 m high, leads us 2.5 m later to a first bedroom-chamber. On the left, a small crawlway communicates with the second entrance. At the back on the left we access another chamber via an R-1. This inclined-floor chamber has more fox “beds”. On our right there are two more passages that end 3 m later. At the back on the left there is a descending crawlway of about 2.5 m.

A small hole through which light from outside filters in indicates a connection with the second entrance.

On the left there is a passage that leads us to the second entrance, also with a balmed appearance. This entrance is about 2.5 m wide by 1.25 m high.

Progressione

Altri dettagli

In the first bedroom-chamber a couple of typical fox “beds” can be seen, and recent droppings of these animals. In the inclined-floor chamber there are more fox “beds”.

Storia

The three small caves of the Serra de la Costa had remained unpublished in the speleological catalogues of Garraf until March 2010, when they were located and catalogued by members of the Grup d'Espeleologia de Badalona.
