Caratteristiche

Località

A group of small rock shelters in the Serra d'Ancosa (la Llacuna).

From km 25 of the road from Vilafranca del Penedès to la Llacuna, a track leaves on the left towards Pontons. Before reaching Can Salvat we will find on the right a track that climbs towards the path to Puig Castellar and the FECSA installation. Then one takes the track onwards towards the house of Ancosa and after 500 metres, on the left, a path leads to the springs of Canals and of l'Hort Xic. To the left towards the one of les Canals and to the right towards the one of l'Hort Xic. About 40 metres above the latter are the cavities. Caves 1 and 2 are separated from each other by about 40 metres and at the same level.

Descrizione

Morfologia

A group of arranged rock shelters where some stone walls were built at the entrance that reach up to the ceiling and leave only an entrance 1.30 metres high by about 70 centimetres wide, with a wall thickness of between 0.70 and 1 metre.

The one catalogued as number 1: the rock shelter is about 13 metres wide by 5 metres deep and a small hole in the central part of about 2 metres more. Going to the N part of the rock shelter we find the cave with the wall, from the portal it is about 4.80 metres deep by about 3 metres wide and 1.50 to 2 metres high.

Cave number 2 is located further N, it is about 3.20 metres deep by about 3 metres wide and a height of between 2 and 3.50 metres.

Altri dettagli

They were used as a hiding place during the civil war. The one catalogued as number 1 had been used around the Middle Ages and remains of pottery and flint have been found on the surface. Remains of some stones in the form of an old wall that must have served as a corral for livestock and part of a terrace that could have been a path or trail, which passed by the foot of the cave and went up to the top of the crag, are also observed.

Storia

Known since remote times. Cited by Joan Virella in his collection of Penedès cavities (1978) of which he only says: small caves under the water supply tanks.

The only concrete data we know are those published by members of the GREV – Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer (Vilanova i la Geltrú), who visited and surveyed them in 1988.
