Caratteristiche

Località

Located in Serinyà, we head to the end of carrer del Torrent, just behind some agricultural warehouses. From here we go along the side of the field to a small grove on the other side of this field and close to the cingle de la Margenera, where we will find the mouth of the pit. To reach the cave entrance, we follow along the side of the cingle in an E direction, where we soon find a steep path that descends to a kind of ledge. On this ledge we find a plank resting against the wall, which helps us reach a path that runs along the middle of the cingle until we reach the cave entrance.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The upper entrance, one metre in diameter, opens as a pit 4.93 metres deep. At the base and in a NE direction, we find a narrow passage that ends in a small chamber. From the base of the pit and in a W direction, the gallery maintains respectable dimensions, until reaching the upper part of a hall, whose base lies some four metres lower, but which can be descended without any problem. From the hall we can already see the light entering through the cave entrance located on the cingle de la Margenera. In the hall and on the W side, we find a couple of small passages that end after a few metres, while on the NW side we find the access to a narrow passage that places us in a gallery parallel to that of the cave entrance, but of smaller dimensions, and almost at the end we find a tight 0.30X0.37 metre squeeze that allows us to observe that the gallery continues for a few more metres.

Storia

Discovered in the last third of the 19th century, shortly after the Bora Gran d'en Carreres. Pere Alsius visited it for the first time in 1871. Josep Bosoms carried out large-scale excavations there during the first years of the 20th century, while in 1931 Josep Mª Corominas sieved the earth left by Josep Bosoms. Finally in 1943-44 Ll. Pericot and J. Maluquer, taking advantage of the ongoing excavation of the nearby Bora gran d'en Carreres, finished sieving and excavating the cave until leaving it practically exhausted.

Around 1974 Xavier Marín of the GEIS of the CE Empordanès carried out a survey of the cova de les Encantades de Martís, erroneously documenting it as the cova dels Encantats. This error led to this survey being attributed in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (vol. 6) of 1981 to the cova dels Encantats de Serinyà, when in reality it was that of the cova de les Encantades de Martís in Esponellà. This error is likewise reproduced again in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya (vol.4) published in 2010.
