Caratteristiche

Località

The cave entrance is visible from the small village of Sant Martí de Surroca (Ogassa). It opens in a cliff located to the SW of coll de Pal.

From Sant Martí de Surroca at the height of the cemetery, we will follow the track heading to Coll de Pal; after covering 1.6 km, just past can Casadet, we will turn left onto a path heading to the cingles de can Picola; in about 950 metres we will pass by the Cambra de les Monges and one kilometre further on we will find the cova dels Encantats at the base of a cliff.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The 4x2 metre entrance leads to a straight gallery 32 metres long, at the end of which, through a very narrow passage, it comes into contact with a new part of the cavity about 15 metres in development and with wider sections.

Concrezioni

The new part of the cavity is covered by lithogenesis.

Progressione

In this last part of the cavity it has been impossible to gain access for years, as it is completely filled with stones and sediments that make passage impossible.

Storia

Known since time immemorial by the local people, in 1936 J. Teixidor (UEC) cites them as coves d'Avellanosa.

A. Tolrà (SIEP) visits it in 1968 and surveys it.

In the cave we find some curious rock engravings, which appear to bear a certain resemblance to those located in the cova del Tabac in Camarasa. In 1998, following the corresponding permit application to the Archaeology service of the Generalitat, two visits were made in order to analyse the possibility of a more general archaeological intervention on the cavity.
