Descrizione
Morfologia
It has an entrance 5 metres high and 6 metres wide, followed by a short gallery of 5 metres, occupied by large blocks, which maintains the dimensions of the entrance. At the back, on the left, we find a short crawlway that ends at 2 metres. Ascending 3 metres over the last large block we reach a dusty-earth bedding plane that becomes impenetrable at 5 metres and which we can access from both sides of the blocks. On the left side we find a small 3-metre pit (which does not need to be descended) and which leads to the start of the 2-metre crawlway mentioned above.
Progressione
To access the cave, leave the car at km 2.5 on the B.112 road and continue on foot toward Monistrol for about 50 metres to an incipient stream, which we will ascend gaining height, passing by the Mentiroses de Collbató. For the last metres we will have to make a short scramble up to the entrance. Inside, ascending 3 metres over the last large block we reach a dusty-earth bedding plane, which we can access from both sides of the blocks.
Storia
Known since time immemorial, it is already mentioned on the old maps of Montserrat as Cova dels Duchs.
During the study campaigns led by N. Llopis and J.Mª Thomas in the late 1940's, they give this name, but in the singular, to a small cave very close by. Currently Cova de la Carme. This error is already noted by Jordi Mor in his work on the sector (1973).
Finally, the true cova dels Ducs is surveyed and catalogued by members of the Espeleo Club de Gràcia in October 2015, although they keep its name in the singular.
