Caratteristiche

Località

On the N-260 road between Pobla de Segur and Gerri de la Sal, after passing the first tunnel, and almost opposite a cable that crosses the Noguera Pallaresa river, a path branches off to the left that climbs quickly until reaching a col situated at about 710 metres of altitude; from there the path continues more or less level and in the direction of the barranc de Sant Pere. The cavity is located to the right of the path and approximately half an hour from the road.

Descrizione

Morfologia

The cavity consists of a single gallery 26 metres long with an average cross-section of 3 x 3 metres that at the end is blocked by sediments. Worth noting is the curious erosion form that has developed on the ceiling of the gallery along its course and that has always been the reason for giving this name to the cavity.

Altri dettagli

At the entrance of the cavity some works have been carried out, probably in order to use it as a shelter for shepherds or hunters.

Storia

Known forever by the local people. Legend says that a monk, tired of the serpent eating all the donkeys that transported food, loaded one of them with loaves filled with sharpened knives. When the snake ate the donkey its guts were torn. On the ceiling of the cave the mark of its spine can be seen.
