Caratteristiche

Località

In the western sector of the serra de Can Rubió, on its southern slope. 200 m north of Can Rubió, the farmhouse that gives its name to the serra. About one kilometre west of the cova del Petrecó.

To get there, we will set off from the industrial estate of Can Roca, located north of the urban centre of Esparreguera, and take the track that, passing beside a riding school, leads to Can Rubió. Shortly before reaching the entrance to the estate, an ascending track branches off to the left. We will follow it, now on foot, until we reach the GR-6 where it forms the historic path from Esparreguera to Collbató. We will follow it to the left, in the direction of Collbató, and we will soon reach the base of a high-voltage electricity pylon. Here we will leave the path to climb decisively up the firebreak beneath the power lines. When we have climbed about 40 m in elevation, we will leave the firebreak to the right, heading east, trying to keep our height while following some stone walls, and after about 130 m we will find the cave entrance, located at the foot of a small outcrop of limestone rock.

Storia

Known to local people and to local hikers. Some groups have even used the cave to set up the Christmas nativity scene. The place name “Cova del Senecó” appears labelled on the ICGC map, but it places it about 150 m east of the spot where the cave is actually located.

Despite this, the cavity had remained speleologically unpublished until the visit at the end of October 2023 by members of the ECM Barcelonès and the GE Badalona, who carried out the surveying and cataloguing work.
