Località

The cave is located at the eastern end of the abandoned Rieral quarry, situated about 2 km SSE of Aiguafreda, on the left hydrographic slope of the Congost river. To get there, we will leave the car at the Petrocat gas station on the C-17 road, about 3 km before the Aiguafreda exit. From one end of the gas station an old ascending track heads north, which we will follow until reaching a construction that belonged to the quarry. From its right a path begins that, after some winding, passes near the eastern end of the quarry, where we will already see the mouth of the cavity, hanging just above the quarry face.

Morfologia

The mouth hangs just above the quarry face, at the very limit, so that from the mouth downwards is the excavation wall of the quarry and from the mouth upwards is the cliff of the original terrain. It hangs about 15 m above the base of the quarry. The mouth is more or less triangular in shape, 1.5 m high by 1.3 m wide, its base coinciding with a stratification plane. The cross-section diminishes rapidly and the gallery bifurcates. The left gallery does not quite close, continuing with impracticable dimensions. Total length: 6.5 m.

Progressione

To reach the mouth there were two options: either a handrail was rigged or a rappel was made from the upper part of the cliff where it is located. The second option was chosen, even though the cliff has a slight overhang, which forced a pendulum to be made in order to reach the mouth.

Storia

The cave was spotted from a distance by Ferran Cardona around the year 2010, but it was not until some years later that he decided to go there, confirming that it was not possible to access it except by using ropes, for which it was necessary to return another time with equipment and companions. But time went by and it was not until October 2020 that a trip was finally prepared in order to carry out its exploration.
